Former judge to probe corruption allegations against Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday appointed former Bombay high court judge Kailash Chandiwal to probe corruption allegations against home minister Anil Deshmukh.
Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh had levelled serious corruption charges against Deshmukh, alleging that the latter gave cops, including suspended police officer Sachin Waze, a target to accumulate Rs 100 crore per month in bribes.
Singh had revealed this in a letter to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. He later moved the Bombay high court, demanding CBI probe against Deshmukh.
Deshmukh has denied all charges against him.
The NIA is probing the alleged role of Waze, who was arrested on March 13, in parking an explosives-laden vehicle outside the Mumbai residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani on February 25 and in the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran, who purportedly owned that vehicle.
Hiran’s body was found in the creek in Thane district on March 5.
