MUMBAI: The BMC issued challans to 208 commuters on Western and Central Railway on Wednesday for not wearing masks. A sum of Rs 42,400 was collected as fines. The data was released by the Government Railway Police on Thursday.
Maximum challans (130) were issued at CSMT, followed by 35 at Wadala station and 10 at Andheri station.
Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in his address to citizens recently had appealed that all those who do not want a second lockdown should wear masks. Thereafter, police commissioner Parambir Singh had tweeted that the police too were given powers to issue challans to citizens not wearing masks. The fine amount is Rs 200.
