Mumbai: Police personnel to be deployed outside sealed housing societies | Mumbai News – Times of India


MUMBAI: Going back to the initial days of the pandemic when police personnel would be deployed at the entry and exit of sealed buildings and slum clusters, the BMC has said that the same would be once again done in wake of rising Covid cases in the city.
This was a part of the BMC issued SOP to be followed in case of micro containment zones. Any cooperative housing society having more than five active Covid cases shall be sealed and treated as a micro containment zone. Such a society needs to put up a board at the outside gate informing visitors and denying entry. In case of a default the society shall be fined Rs 10,000 in the first instance and Rs 20,000 for every subsequent instance, attract a fine of Rs 20,000.
The police personnel posted in each of these micro containment zones shall ensure ingress and egress of the micro containment zone and they should also oversee the strict implementation of these guidelines by the office bearers of the society in case any lapses may bring it to the notice of the BMC ward officials.
No egress shall be allowed except with the concurrence of the secretary/chairman of the society and police deployed in each of these micro containment zones that too for exceptional cases only like medical emergencies and board exams of the students.
The new circular also stated that it will be the duty of the office bearers to seal the flats containing asymptomatic patients. Any lapse on part of society will be deemed fault on the part of the society which may attract a fine of Rs 10,000 and repetition of the same shall invite a fine of Rs 20,000 which would be enforced by BMC officials.
The circular also reiterated that any asymptomatic positive patient in home isolation within the flat shall not move out of the flat premises and if found to be violating it, an FIR shall be filed by the ward officials against such asymptomatic positive patients.
However BMC health officials and medical professionals will be entitled to visit and enter such micro containment zones for medical health and monitoring purposes. Also home collection of swabs in such micro containment zones by testing laboratories through their employees in proper gear shall be allowed.
All wards have been directed to ensure strict compliance of these SOP’s with the help of police personnel by keeping them informed in a letter to the commissioner of police. the zonal deputy municipal commissioners have been asked to monitor the implementation of this SOP by surprise visits and phone calls to such places.
