TMC mantri injured in attack; Bengal BJP chief targeted too | India News – Times of India

KOLKATA/SITALKUCHI/JALPAIGURI: TMC candidate and West Bengal minorities affairs minister Giyasuddin Molla suffered a grievous head injury when attacked on Wednesday evening at Rajarhat by men allegedly belonging to Indian Secular Front and BJP, while Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh’s convoy was attacked by suspected TMC activists in Cooch Behar’s Sitalkuchi on Wednesday.
Molla was taken to a local nursing home, while agitated supporters set ablaze a bus stationed on the side of a road. “I was attacked when I was on my way home. Goons from ISF and BJP attacked me with bamboo poles,” Molla said.
Meanwhile, Ghosh’s car was vandalised and he alleged bombings by TMC workers. Ghosh was in Sitalkuchi to attend a rally. TMC workers started agitating near the venue and the two sides clashed. Bombs were allegedly hurled, prompting BJP leaders to wind up the rally.
“Our car was on the move. Suddenly, TMC workers started throwing stones and bombs,” Ghosh said. “My car’s windshield and side windows were damaged. My hand was hurt,” he said. TMC MP Saugata Roy said the attackwas unfortunate. “But the comment Ghosh makes provokes people.”
Supporter killed, claims BJP
A 34-year-old jeweller was shot dead on Wednesday by masked men at his Cooch Behar shop, barely a kilometre from the hotel where CM Mamata Banerjee is staying. BJP claimed that deceased was a party supporter and staged a dharna in front of the local police station. TMC rubbished the claim.
